Ekiden Airdrop Guide: XP, Fees and the Holding Strategy
Ekiden is an order-book perp DEX on the Canton Network in private mainnet. How its XP works, what it costs, and why holding a hedged position out-earns trading volume.
Ekiden is a perpetual futures exchange on the Canton Network, and it is one of the few places where a retail trader can get early exposure to that ecosystem. It is in private mainnet, it runs a live XP program, and its own docs spell out exactly how XP is earned. That last part matters: most perp DEXes keep their points formula vague, and Ekiden does not, so you can plan a position instead of guessing.
Ekiden describes itself as infrastructure for tokenized derivative markets on Canton Network. In practice it is an order-book venue for perpetual futures. Orders match off-chain on a central limit order book, then batches settle on Canton later. Order and position data can be checked against Merkle-based cryptographic commitments, and you keep self-custody of your assets.
Canton is the chain a consortium of financial institutions built for tokenized assets and settlement. It has very few retail-facing trading apps, which is why an exchange there is interesting: when an ecosystem is young, early users are scarce, and scarce early users are what airdrops reward.
No. Ekiden has not announced a token or an airdrop. What exists is an XP program that tracks your trading, holding, quests and referrals. XP programs on tokenless perp DEXes have often turned into token allocations, but that is a pattern, not a promise. Treat Ekiden as a speculative prospect and size your effort accordingly.
- Project: Ekiden
- Type: Perpetual futures DEX, central limit order book
- Network: Canton Network
- Status: Private mainnet (access codes)
- Token: None announced
- Rewards: XP from trading, holding, quests and referrals
- Fees during private mainnet: 0.01% maker, 0.035% taker
- Referrals: 15% / 10% / 5% of your network's XP, three levels deep
- App:
- Related: Lighter , Pacifica , Variational
These numbers come straight from Ekiden's points documentation.
Some accounts get an XP multiplier through an access code or a season conversion. Only the highest multiplier applies. Losing trades do not reduce XP, and market-maker and internal accounts do not earn it.
Trading fees are low during private mainnet: 0.01% maker and 0.035% taker. Your real costs are elsewhere:
- Liquidation risk. Holding XP rewards leverage, and leverage can liquidate you. A hedge on another venue protects you from price moves but not from one side getting liquidated if margin runs thin.
- Funding rates. Perpetuals charge or pay funding while you hold. A hedged pair pays funding on one side and receives it on the other, but the rates differ between venues.
- Capital on two venues. A hedge needs margin on both exchanges.
A realistic start is a few hundred dollars at moderate leverage, hedged, rather than one large unhedged position.
On the positive side, Ekiden publishes a detailed fee schedule, an exact XP formula and API documentation, and it is self-custodial with verifiable settlement. On the risk side:
- No public funding round turned up in our research, and no token is announced.
- Private mainnet means the product is still early; expect changes to fees and XP rules.
- Canton is a newer ecosystem for retail users, so bridging and tooling are less battle-tested than on major chains.
- Leverage risk is real, and XP formulas reward it.
Only use the official domain, never share your seed phrase, and only deposit what you can afford to lose.
How do Ekiden points work?
Ekiden uses XP: 10 XP per $1 of taker fees, 5 XP per $1 of taker-equivalent fees on maker fills, up to 1 XP per $1,000 held per hour scaled by leverage, plus quests and three-level referral XP.
Is there an Ekiden token?
Not yet. No token or airdrop has been announced. XP is the position you build in case one comes.
What is the cheapest way to earn Ekiden XP?
Holding a position earns more XP than trading the same size, and maker fills earn XP even at zero fee. A hedged position, with the opposite side on another perp DEX, collects holding XP without betting on price.
Do I need an invite?
Yes. Ekiden is in private mainnet and uses access codes.
